The Historical Society of Dayton Valley invites the public to attend a FREE Aug. 15 historic lecture at the Dayton Valley Community Center at 7:30 p.m. that features David Moore’s presentation titled, “The Dayton Pit: Big Bonanza or Paradise Lost?”
Moore’s PowerPoint talk will describe how a 1940 gold-dredging operation near downtown Dayton at the mouth of Gold Canyon, the birthplace of Nevada, created a tourist attraction while changing the lives of Dayton residents and the appearance of the historic town.
Moore is a Dayton resident and historical society member. He’s a former editor of Nevada Magazine and once a reporter for the Gold Hill News.
The doors open at 7 p.m. when dessert, coffee, tea, lemonade and water are served and autographed copies of the Arcadia Publishing book, Dayton: Images of America, will be for sale. All proceeds benefit the preservation of Dayton.
