Royalty paid a visit to City Hall to present Mayor Ken Tedford with a Royal Proclamation acknowledging the friendship between Fallon and the annual Fallon Cantaloupe Festival & Country Fair.

King and queen Neil and Kelli Kelly visited the mayor in the council chambers. Their proclamation reads as follows:

Whereas the City of Fallon was founded in the Great Basin in 1908; and

Whereas the Great Basin of Nevada provides fertile soil and irrigation for farmers to grow the world’s best melons; and

Whereas the Cantaloupe Kingdom was created in 1985 with the inaugural Cantaloupe Festival celebrating the importance of agriculture in the Great Basin epitomized in the historic Fallon Hearts of Gold Cantaloupe; and

Whereas the City of Fallon and its Mayor Ken Tedford have demonstrated an enduring commitment to cooperation and friendship with the Cantaloupe Kingdom; and

Whereas the friendship and support of City of Fallon is essential to ensure survival and wellness of the Cantaloupe Kingdom.

Tedford reciprocated by giving the key to Fallon and other memorabilia to the king and queen. The Fallon Cantaloupe Festival & Country Fair is less than two weeks away, beginning on the last weekend of August at the Churchill County Fairgrounds. The four-day festival is a tribute to the valley’s most famous crop, the Hearts of Gold cantaloupe.
