Nevada jobless rate lowest since August 2007

The jobless rate in Nevada fell to 4.6 percent in July, the lowest level since August 2007, the state reported Wednesday.

But it still had the fifth highest rate among states and was above the national 3.9 percent.

The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported there were an estimated 68,400 without jobs. The male unemployment level was 4.7 percent and females at 4.8 percent.

There were an estimated 1.4 million on the job. The department said a record 70,960 employers reported to the state.

Since the beginning of the year, there has been growth in a number of industries. Construction jobs grew to 92,400 in July compared to 89,200 in January. The leisure and hospitality industry said its employment stands at 354,700 compared to 350,100 at the beginning of the year. Trade, transportation and utilities reported 255,000 on the job compared to 252,600 in January.

Department Economist David Schmidt said, “This month’s report continues to show a strong labor market in the state, with the largest employment increase in two years and another decline in the state’s unemployment rate.”
