The unemployment rate in July in Carson City remained at 4.3 percent which was below the statewide average of 4.6 percent.
The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported Tuesday the state added 46,000 new jobs since July 2017 with the biggest gains at 10,300 in Las Vegas and 800 in Reno.
The agency released its breakdown of the various counties, showing Eureka County the lowest at 2.8 percent and Nye County the highest at 5.7 percent.
David Schmidt, chief economist for the department, said the jobless rate is down in 16 of the 17 counties compared to a year ago. Esmeralda County was the only one to have a higher rate at 5.2 percent
The report shows Carson City has 31,200 people on the job with 9,800 in government; 3,800 in the leisure industry and 2,700 in manufacturing.
Churchill County reported a 4 percent jobless rate, down from 5.1 percent in January. There were 22,748 persons working.
The unemployment rate in Lyon County fell from 6.7 percent in January to 5.1 percent this July. The department said 21,096 were working.
Pershing County reported a jobless rate of 3.6 percent, a decrease from 5 percent in January. There were an estimated 2,559 on the job.
Storey County’s jobless rate in July fell to 4.5 percent down from the 5.6 percent in January. There were 1,951 individuals employed,
Washoe County reported a jobless rate of 3.5 percent compared to 4.5 percent in January. There were 246,000 persons employed in the Reno-Sparks area.
The department said Clark County’s jobless rate stood at 4.7 percent, the same as in January. There were 1,057,400 persons employed.
Schmidt said manufacturing was the fastest growing sector in Nevada with a gain of 14 percent this year. “As employers continue to add jobs, more people are joining the workforce, showing confidence in the economy,” he said.
