Registration is now open for the fifth annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day.
Founder Robey Willis is encouraging golfers to sign up as soon as possible.
“It sells out every year now,” he said. “People are putting it on the schedule to do each year.”
The annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day will also feature a 5K and 10K walk/run as well as a bench press competition on Sept. 15 at the Silver Oak Golf Course.
The bulk of the proceeds from the event go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the national organization providing support, resources, volunteer opportunities and hope for people fighting the disease.
The remaining 25 percent goes to local scholarships.
“We set a record of raising over $11,000 last year,” Willis said. “There’s got to be something to slow this down. I’ve never known anyone to live through it.”
The four-person scramble golf tournament begins at 9 a.m. Cost is $90 per person. Registration forms are available at the Silver Oak Golf Course or online at www.visitcarsoncity.com. Packets can be picked up 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Silver Oak Golf Course.
The tournament will be divided into six divisions by gender and age.
The bench press championships will be 7-9 a.m. at the south side of the clubhouse. The entry fee is $10 for three lifts, and will be accepted at the event.
The runs begin at 8 a.m. at the clubhouse. Cost is $30 for the 5K, kids 12 and under are $10. Early packet pick-up will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Silver Oak Clubhouse. Packets may also be picked up the morning of the race.
