Wolf Pack notebook: Cody Martin fills up the stat sheet

RENO – Cody Martin has done a great job all season filling up the stat sheet, and Sunday afternoon he was at it again.

Martin came up one rebound short of a triple-double in leading the 20th-ranked Wolf Pack to a 92-83 win over Colorado State before a crowd of 10,273 at Lawlor Events Center.

Martin scored 17 points, dished out a season-high 11 assists and also had nine rebounds. It was his fourth double-double of the season.

“I didn’t know until after,” Martin said. “I told coach (Musselman) when we were cutting down the nets that I hope you know I didn’t miss it (final free throw) on purpose. It did look bad I will admit to that.

“I approach every game the same way. I see what we have to do. I only scored two points the last game. Kendall (Stephens) and Hallice (Cooke) were shooting well, so I contributed in different ways. Sometimes if we’re not scoring, I need to take over. Other games we’re shooting well and I do other stuff.”

SENIORS GO OUT IN STYLE

The win over Colorado State was the last regular-season home game for Nevada seniors Elijah Foster, Hallice Cooke and Kendall Stephens.

In an emotional pre-game ceremony, the trio was introduced to the crowd after a short video tribute.

Stephens, bothered by a splint on his right thumb which he eventually took off during the game, scored nine points on 3-for-12 shooting.

Cooke was limited to 20 minutes because of foul trouble, but he scored eight points, had two steals and dished out an assist.

Foster was limited to four minutes and had an assist and a rebound.

SOLID GAME FOR HALL

Josh Hall scored 12 points, pulled down seven rebounds, dished out two assists , blocked one shot and had one steal in his 30-minute stint.

It was Hall’s first double-digit scoring game since Jan. 31 when he scored 19 in a win over Fresno State.

“I thought josh did great job,” Musselman said. “Rebounding and good shot selection. His shot selection has been phenomenal. I have a lot of confidence in Josh.”

UP NEXT

Nevada travels to meet in-state rival UNLV on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Thomas & Mack.

The Rebels handed Nevada its worst loss of the season, 86-78, in Reno on Feb. 7.

Nevada’s five losses have come by a total of 21 points, and all but one have come away from home.

Jordan Caroline’s 21 points and 14 rebounds is his 11th double-double of the season and 25th of his career.
