Hot Shots softball team lives up to its name

The Nevada Hot Shots 18 and under softball team lived up to its name by posting a 15-2 record through a gauntlet of 17 games over six days in two high-powered tournaments.

The Hot Shots won the College Showcase held on July 21 and 22 in Roseville, California, and took third in the Triple Crown World Series held July 17-21 in Sparks. The following are recaps from 14 of the games:

HOT SHOTS 10, LADY HUSTLE 3

Casey Peck had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI to lead the Hot Shots.

Kettja Bennett pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win, allwing three runs on six hits.

Rylee Retzer also had three hits and Jailene Salciedo and Aubrey Parks each had two hits to lead the Hot Shots 12-hit attack.

HOT SHOTS 4, BOWNET 3

Amidori Anderson’s two run home run in the fifth wiped out a 3-2 deficit, propelling the Hot Shots to the win.

Bennett pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Kasey Reynolds, Retzer, Anderson, and Kenzie Brixey all had two hits to lead the Hot Shots 10-hit attack.

HOT SHOTS 9, DIRT DOGS 2

Bennett again got the victory on the mound and Retzer homered. Courtney Huff and Brixey had three hits and Peck had two hits to lead the Hot Shots 13-hit attack.

HOT SHOTS 6, HYPE 2

Salciedo was the winning pitcher. Salciedo and Retzer each had two hits and Retzer also had a double. Beeps Salciedo led an excellent defensive effort.

CALIFORNIA BREEZE 1, HOT SHOTS 0

Salciedo was the tough luck loser in her complete game effort. Parks, Haley Doughty, CHuff, Brixey and Retzer all had one hit.

HOT SHOTS 10, CROSSFIRE-ATKINS 3

Bennett was the winning pitcher. Salciedo had two hits and a two-run homer and Huff had two hits and a double.

HOT SHOTS 6, TBD 0

Bennett pitched a complete game shutout for the win. Huff went 2-for-4, Salciedo doubled and Doughty homered.

HOT SHOTS 11, TBD 0

Salciedo pitched the complete game, one-hit shutout for the win. Salciedo also homered.

Amidori Anderson and Huff had two hits and a triple and Retzer and Jasi Mcninch each had two hits to lead the Hot Shots 12-hit attack.

TEXAS THREAT 6, HOT SHOTS 0

The Threat took command early for the win.

HOT SHOTS 5, HAWAII PEARLS 4

Doughty came through with the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Anderson’s home run in the sixth tied the score 4-4 as the Hot Shots overcame a 4-1 deficit.

Bennett was the winning pitcher, allowing one run over 5 2/3 innings. Huff had three hits and Anderson and Brixey each had two hits.

HOT SHOTS 7, FUSION 6

This time it was Huff who came through with the game-winning RBI single. Bennett was the winning pitcher. Huff, Brixey and Anderson all had multiple hit games.

HOT SHOTS 6, WASHINGTON ACRES 0

Salciedo and Bennett combined on the shutout. Salciedo went six innings and Bennett pitched the seventh. Retzer and Salciedo eeach homered. Retzer had three hits and Mcninch and Huff each had two hits.

HOT SHOTS 8, PRIMETIME/MIZUNO-MONROY 0

Bennett pitched a one-hit shutout for the win. Doughty went 2-for-2 with a double and Teagan Williamson had two stolen bases.

HOT SHOTS 4, CROSSFIRE-ATKINS 2

Salciedo earned the win. Anderson had two hits, including a double.
