Prep Roundup: Pinole Valley tops Carson High baseball

HERCULES, Calif. — Carson High’s baseball team gave up seven runs in the first two innings en route to an 8-6 loss to Pinole Valley in a non-league game Friday.

The loss snapped a two-game win streak by the Senators, who conclude their Bay Area trip with a doubleheader starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s High in Berkeley.

Carson out-hit the Spartans, 9-7, as Abel Carter homered and singled, Joe Tonino and Delsin Roberts had a double and single each, and freshman Kobe Morgan had two singles.

Colby Zemp was tagged with the loss. He allowed seven runs, five earned, over three innings. Hayden Hudson and Max Fontaine pitched well in relief.

Carson hosts Spanish Springs Monday at 6 p.m.

Tigers rally for win

MINDEN — Ayden Murphy scored on a two-out passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Douglas Tigers rallied for a 5-4 Northern 4A baseball walkoff victory against Spanish Springs on Friday in Minden.

Douglas (3-2 conference, 5-5 overall) scored twice in the seventh to hand Spanish Springs (3-1, 6-3) its first loss of the conference season in a makeup game. Douglas extended its win streak to three games, the last two coming on walkoffs.

Andrew Rangel singled to lead off the Tigers’ seventh inning rally and dashed home with the tying run when Jayden Foster lofted a long sacrifice fly to center field. Murphy lined a single to left field, then Zach Romero and Blake Murray drew walks to load the bases, setting the stage for the game-winning run.

Foster came on to pitch in relief of Rangel and worked the final 2.2 innings to earn the win.

The two teams were originally scheduled to play last Saturday, only to be postponed due to wet grounds. Spanish Springs hosts Douglas to complete the two-game series on Wednesday. Douglas also plays Reed on Tuesday and Thursday.

Dust Devils rout Spring Creek

ELKO – Dayton scored 12 runs in the third en route to a 15-0 mercy rule win over Spring Creek on Friday.

The teams play a doubleheader today starting at 11. Dayton is 11-0-1 overall this season.

Caleigh Onstott allowed just two hits and struck out six in the victory. She threw 68 pitches, 44 for strikes. Of the 20 batters she faced, she started ahead on 13 of them.

Tamia Powell went 3-for-4, including a double and triple, and drove in three runs, and Marissa Hein went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Onstott helped her own cause with two hits and an RBI, Julie Rogacs went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Alaura Greenwalt and Amanda Woitas each drove in two runs.

Powell, Aleea Howe, Rogacs, Greenwalt, Woitas and Hein all drove in runs in the decisive third inning.

Carson goes 1-2 at Reed

SPARKS – The Senators went 1-2 on the first day of the Reed Easter Tournament at Shadow Mountain.

Carson lost to Alhambra-Martinez, 7-0, and Henley-Klamath Falls, 10-6, and beat Livingston, 4-1.

Kedre Luschar led the way against Livingston, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and Alex Salciedo went 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Carson had three in the second. The game was called after five innings because of the time limit.

In the loss to Alhambra, Carson managed just three hits, one each by Kedre Luschar, Cam Quilling and Lauren Lemburg.

Against Henley, Jailene Salciedo went 2-for-3, including a two-run homer. Faith Bigelow also had two hits.
