Gaming win up 7 percent in Carson

Nevada casinos reported $953.7 million in gaming win for the month of April, a 7.57 percent, $67.1 million increase over the same month of 2017. According to Gaming Control Board Analyst Mike Lawton, that increase came despite the 17.7 percent $14 million decrease in Baccarat win.

Transient arrested for contempt, says Carson City Sheriff’s Office

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. THURSDAY At 1:14 a.m., a 39-year-old transient man was arrested on suspicion of contempt of court and driving without a valid license after deputies initiated a traffic stop near College Parkway and Retail. Bail was set $550.

Sex offenders tracked to make sure they’re complying with rules

MONDAY • At 2:14 a.m., Melissa Ann Carnahan, 39, and Paul Carnahan, 42, were jailed after the vehicle they were in was stopped for expired license plates on North Carson Street. She was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of control substance after the deputy spotted a baggie containing what appeared to be meth in the console. He was jailed on a parole and probation hold with no bail. Her bail was set at $2,500.

‘Drunken pedestrian’ held on $25 bail, Carson City Sheriff’s Office says

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. SUNDAY • At 3:45 a.m., a 34-year-old was arrested after deputies responded to a report of a man lying in the roadway at Industrial Park Drive and Utah Street. He was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct after becoming combative with deputies and paramedics called to the scene. He was also held at the request of Parole and Probation without bail.

Grad retail sales should hit $8 million

The Retail Association of Nevada says spending on graduates should generate upward of $8 million in retail sales this year. Spokesman Bryan Wachter said that will be a record for “cap and gown” sales in the Silver State.

A few weeks ago, the folks at the Churchill County Museum discovered an advertisement that was published in the Fallon Standard on June 20, 1928. The text in the advertisement reads: “Do Your part in making Churchill County a better place to live and thrive. Spend your money at home — insist upon products grown in Churchill County — upon goods sold by Churchill County stores. Let your dollar continue to do a hundred cents worth of work for the boys and girls of our own County — and incidently (sic) to give you far greater return both directly and indirectly than you could otherwise obtain from it.”

Friday was an evening to remember for Churchill County High School’s Class of 2018, as graduating seniors celebrated their last night together as one with family and friends, without stormy weather.

Local family ranch partners with River Wranglers for youth event

River Wranglers, the youth education and outreach organization in the Carson River Watershed, held two Conserve Carson River Work Days at the Rambling River Ranches (formerly known as the Frey Ranch) last week with local high school and elementary students. River Wranglers is a nonprofit organization partially funded and supported by the Carson Water Subconservancy District and the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection. Conserve Carson River Work Days have become an institution in the local schools across the Carson River watershed because of the support from these grantors.

President Donald Trump praised this year’s graduating class at the U.S. Naval Academy and what they may face in the future as Navy and Marine Corps officers, but his remarks of sacrifice focused on a Fallon aviator who died in combat almost 75 years ago.

9th Circuit OKs plan to restore Walker Lake

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has reversed a Las Vegas judge and approved a trial program that could pump more water into Walker Lake. WEDNESDAY • At 10:05 a.m., Kristina Schneider, 45, was turned over to the Carson jail by the Department of Corrections on a warrant on suspicion of failure to appear in court. Her bail was set at $25,000 and she was released back into the custody of the Department of Corrections.

State Senate candidate gets Nevada Supreme Court victory

The Nevada Supreme Court issued an order late Friday staying the district court order disqualifying Gary Schmidt as a candidate in state Senate District 16. Early voting begins Saturday. Carson City Elections Deputy Aubrey Rowlatt said this will be the first time the new voting machines are used in an election. Taxable sales continue to rise in Nevada
