The Truckee High School volleyball team won its 14th consecutive match on Sept. 25 by sweeping Fallon in three sets, 25-8, 25-2 and 25-22.
Truckee faced the Lady Wave after winning six matches at the Carmichael Invitational Volleyball Tournament in Placerville.
The Wolverines were last year’s runner-up in the Northern 3A and state champions in 2016.
Taylor Ingram had three kills for Fallon, while Kinsli Rogne, Shelbi Schultz, Rylee Buckmaster, Ashley Agaman and Madison Whitaker each had one. Whitaker led the team with four blocks, while Buckmaster had three and Mak Moretto with two.
Libero Journey Martin led Fallon with five digs. Loyrnn Fagg and Ingram each had five.
The Wolverines’ junior Kelly Cross had 10 kills and five aces. Senior Ryleigh Hogland was next with eight kills, followed by junior Morgan Just with six kills. Juniors Quinn Kirschner and Maria Galles each recorded eight digs, while Kirschner and Hogland combined for all 34 of the team’s assists.
It wasn’t a good weekend for the Lady Wave as Elko and Spring Creek high schools defeated Fallon in Northern 3A volleyball at the Elmo Dericco Gym.
Elko swept Fallon 25-19, 25-14 and 25-21 on Friday.
Karlee Hitchcock returned to action after being out for several weeks with an ankle injury. She had three kills to lead Fallon and also had two blocks.
Schultz had two kills followed by Martin, Rogne and Buckmaster, each with one. Buckmaster also had two serving aces.
Ingram and Martin led Fallon with seven kills each, and Fagg added five and Schultz with three. Schultz had seven assists, and Buckmaster contributed with five. Ingram had two.
Fallon had a better match against Spring Creek. The teams split their first two games with Spring Creek opening with a 25-23 win, and Fallon coming back 25-22. The Spartans took the next two sets in hard-fought games, 25-20 an 25-19.
Hitchcock led Fallon with nine kills, and Whitaker had seven. Ingram and Buckmaster finished the match with five kills each, and Martin, Schultz and Moretto each had three.
Martin had a good match from the serving line, picking up 15 aces. She also led Fallon with eight digs. Fagg had six, while Ingram had five and Schultz 4. Schultz also led the Wave in assists with 23.
No player statistics were available for either Elko or Spring Creek.
Fallon, 4-14 overall and 4-7 in league, played at Sparks on Tuesday and will travel to South Tahoe on Saturday.
