Hunter Rauh and Zachary Sever provided a nice 1-2 combo to help pace the Carson boys cross country team to a fourth-place finish on Friday at the Reed Invitational in Sparks.

Rauh, a senior, ran 14:10 for the 4-kilometer course (2.55 miles) to place ninth and Sever clocked a time of 14:15 to place 10th for the Senators during a meet that attracted teams representing Northern 4A and 3A schools as well as Mammoth from California.

Ethan Byasse was close behind in 21st with a time of 14:41, sophomore Walker MacKenzie 35th in 15:11 and Jakob Heller 62nd in 15:49 to round out the team’s scoring top five. Sophomore Jacob Crosman was a few steps behind in 15:53 and Andrew Ingram ran 16:23.

Daniel Horner of Spanish Springs won the race in 13:13, followed by Jared Marchegger of Sierra Lutheran in second-place with a 13:39 effort. Spanish Springs won the boys team title by a 57-81 score over Reed, while Galena finished third with 101 points. Carson finished with 123 points

Carson’s girls finished eighth with 207 points, led by Hannah Kaiser’s 14th-place finish. The junior ran 17:35. Freshman Ella Wick showing great improvement and a great finishing kick moved up from 5th to 2nd on the varsity at 20:32, Junior Erin Cartier ran strong in 20:33 to finish 62nd.

Carissa Buchholz of South Tahoe won the race in 15:34.

Carson finished fifth in the JV boys race with 179 points, led by Adan Garcia’s 15:53 effort to place fourth. It was Garcia’s first race of the year and he showed excellent race judgment and finishing strength.

In the JV girls race, freshman Kaitlin Schulze, in her first race back from a broken toe, ran 21:42 to place 21st.

Carson is scheduled to host a Sierra League meet on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Washoe Lake State Recreation Area.

CHS girls fall to Reed, Reno

The Carson High girls tennis team lost to Reed 12-6 and to Northern 4A power Reno 18-0 in recent action.

Against Reed in singles, Jennifer Artz swept, winning 6-3, 7-6, 6-1, Shea Dunn won 6-3 and Rachel Fenzke won 6-2 for Carson.

In doubles, Becca Trejo and Sydney Lloyd won 6-1 for the Senators.

Trejo and Lloyd also sustained a tough 5-7 loss and Dunn sustained a tough 6-7 loss.
