Home-court advantage didn’t help the Lady Wave volleyball team Thursday as Fallon lost to Lassen High School in straight sets.
The Grizzlies rolled in the first set 25-11 before rallying in the next two, 25-20 and 25-20, in the nonleague match. Two days before in Susanville, Lassen defeated the Wave in a five-set match, coming back to win the final two sets.
Fallon was scheduled to host North Valleys on Monday, returning to Northern 3A action.
After Fallon struggled in the first set, the Wave grabbed the initial lead and jumped out in front 10-4. Fallon had a pair of blocks from Kinsli Rogne during the opening stretch, and Taylor Ingram blistered Lassen with a kill down the middle. A kill from Karlie Hitchcock gave Fallon its largest lead at six points before Lassen mounted a slow comeback.
Five forced errors resulted in the Grizzlies knotting the score at 11, and then the visitors led by as many as three points at two different times. Fallon came within a point 16-15, after Rogne recorded a kill to the left side.
Lassen slowly pulled away to lead by as many as seven points before winning the set for a 2-0 lead.
The third set went back and forth with the score tied twice. Fallon fell behind 3-1 before Madison Whitaker stretched to block a return to tie the set at 4 and Hitchcock nailed another kill for a 5-4 lead.
Lassen then tied Fallon and took the lead, never to trial again.
Fallon kept within three points until the Grizzlies put together a 10-4 run. The Wave had a difficult time trying to set up against Lassen near the end of the set, and a long return from Fallon resulted in Lassen scoring the 25th point for the sweep.
Lassen grabbed the win in Susanville on Tuesday, 25-19, 22-25, 26-28, 25-23 and 15-8.
Ingram and Whitaker had five kills for the Wave while Hitchcock added four and Rylee Buckmaster had three. Hitchcock had four blocks, and Whitaker recorded two. Buckmaster had 11 assists, and Shelbi Schultz finished the match with eight.
Ingram and Lorynn Fagg each had 16 digs, and Martin had 12. She also had five aces in serving, while Ingram had three and Fagg four.
Fallon is 1-7 overall and 1-2 in league.
