July 25, 1935 ~ Sept. 9, 2018

Richard Adkins, long-time resident of Fallon, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Fernley Estates at the age of 83 years. He chose to enter hospice at a time when the toll of multiple health issues and infirmities of age finally outweighed the long fight of life.

He was born in Davin, West Virginia on July 25, 1935 to Ollie Adkins Sr. and Jessie Adkins (nee Spurlock).

Richard enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1954, moving into the US Army 4 yrs. later and FINALLY retiring in 1975. He now joins his wife Jean, who preceded him in death in 2012.

Richard was always a wonderful hardworking provider for his family. He was generous to a fault, always… with family and total strangers alike and everyone in between. He once said “I worked and luckily was able to earn a good retirement. I’m not rich but I’ve got a penny or two and if I can do something for someone else, I’m going to.”

When healthy, Richard enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, as well as restoring antique clocks. He was most proud of his 20 year military career (which included two tours in Vietnam) and his nearly 50 year membership in the Freemasons (Hancock Lodge #311, Ft. Leavenworth, KS).

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Adkins, and his brothers, Ollie Adkins Jr. and Glen Adkins.

He will be Dearly missed by his daughter and son-in-law Ricki and Mike Landry; granddaughter, Dallas C. Rogers; grandson Jared A. Rogers; and great-grandson Kage A. Libbee; as well as countless friends, former coworkers and family. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Adkins of W. VA; and cousin, Glenna Wiley of W. VA.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Mineral County Cemetery, 1025 Veterans Memorial Hwy in Hawthorne, Nevada at 11:00 A.M. Funeral arrangements will be conducted by Gunter’s Funeral Home, Hawthorne, NV with Dr. Darren Robinson, Pastor of Gospel Light Baptist Church, officiating.
