Carson City summer heat nearly a record

If it felt like the hottest summer ever in Carson City that would be understandable.

While it wasn’t the hottest summer ever in Carson City it came awfully close. The average temperature for the months of June, July and August was 70.7 degrees, just two-tenths of a degree below the all-time high, the National Weather Service in Reno stated.

The all-time high for June-July-August in Carson City of 70.9 was set three times in 2007, 2001 and 1939.

“Either way it was definitely a really warm summer,” said Scott McGuire, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Reno.

The nights for June-July-August were a little warm in Carson City while the days actually weren’t all that warm. The average nighttime temperature of 53 was the third highest ever while the average daytime high of 88.3 was just the 14th highest.

McGuire said there is data missing for a few days during the summer, but noted there was more than 40 days of 90-degree-plus temperatures during June-July-August, including more than 20 in July.

There were just two 100-degree days, both happening in July.
