After a hot start to the season, the Oasis Academy girls lacrosse team finds itself chasing a trio for first place with one month left.
The Bighorns (3-2) sit behind Truckee (6-1) and Bishop Manogue and Galena (both 5-1) after dropping a pair of games to Truckee and Galena at home two weeks ago in the High Sierra Lacrosse League. Oasis Academy, which blew past Douglas (20-1), Bishop Manogue (11-7) and Spanish Springs (23-2) for a perfect start, will get a chance to even the series with Galena as it visits the south Reno school on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
The Bighorns return to Reno the following day to face McQueen before a home game against Damonte Ranch at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the county regional park. The season concludes on May 9 at Reno. Their final home game is May 8 against Douglas.
For the boys, Oasis Academy has more work to do to get in the thick of the playoff race.
The Bighorns sit in seventh with a 1-4 record as Spanish Springs (7-0) and Reno (4-0) are the only teams without a loss. Galena (3-1), Truckee (3-2), Damonte Ranch (3-3) and Manogue (3-4) round out Nos. 2-6.
Oasis Academy opened the season with a 9-2 loss to Reno before its first and only win of the year, a 14-8 decision over Reed. The Bighorns lost to Spanish Springs (21-4), Truckee (9-5) and Damonte Ranch (13-8) to conclude the first month of play.
Oasis Academy visited Damonte Ranch on Tuesday and travels to McQueen on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. showdown and then returns home on Saturday at 11 a.m. for a rematch with the Lancers. The season finale is May 8 vs. Bishop Manogue at the county regional park.
