The final season of work on a shared use path between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park begins April 22.
Work began in 2016. When completed, the project will be a shared use path a bit more than three miles long. So far, the pathway has been excavated and paved, four bridge decks have been installed along with 2,800 feet of storm drain pipes. A pathway tunnel is being put in place as well as 5,000 linear feet of reinforcing walls.
This year, final drainage, landscaping and other finishing work will be done as well as installation of remaining bridge decks.
Granite Construction is expected to finish the work this summer, enhancing safety for more than 2.5 million vehicles and thousands of pedestrians and bicyclists who use the road each year.
The work also includes three new parking areas near the Ponderosa Ranch and Tunnel Creek Café officials say will be much safer parking options for those wishing to access the beaches in that area.
NDOT officials say there will be both day and nighttime single lane closures throughout the construction area Sunday evenings through Friday evenings.
On weekends, there may also be single lane closures during the off-peak season. Delays could be up to 30 minutes.
Overnight there will be full road closures of State Route 28 south of Incline Village from April 29 through May 1, May 6-7 and May 14-15 as remaining bridges are installed.
In addition, officials say the work will also impact access to beaches and trails since access isn’t allowed through construction zones.
The spokesman said during those overnight hours, the road will be shut down in both directions starting at 8 p.m., reopening at 6:30 a.m. But those planned closures are weather dependent and could change.
