A young mother was found dead in her Stanton Park subdivision home this morning less than an hour after a man in a home a block away apparently killed himself with a shotgun. Investigators believe the two deaths are related.

An Overland Mail! We were astonished yesterday by the receipt of an Overland mail. It had such hard work to get through that it was actually damp with perspiration. It is a pity to make so old a thing travel so.

The Pine Nut Killing. It is confessed by a Negro. It was reported here that a negro in Genoa named Johnson had confessed the killing of Balma Celas the French teamster in Pine Nut. He said he was taking wood when Celas ordered him to quit and on his refusing, began shooting. When Celas had emptied his revolver, Johnson rushed him with an ax and killed him. Johnson’s version of the story is not believed.

The Appeal will suspend operations for the day and the force will take to Reno for the opportunity to see the government birdmen’s aerial war stunts for the opening of Uncle Sam’s Victory Loan campaign. It is regretted the “flying circus” could not be brought to the capital.

Replies of regret from Rep. Walter S. Baring and Senator George W. Malone of Nevada have been received by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce to aid in efforts to keep the Virginia and Truckee railway in operation.

The Assembly ways and means committee recommended that the average teacher’s salary be increased from $8,321 to about $9,000.

Carson City supervisors, Douglas and Lyon County Commissioners gave unanimous backing Thursday to a measure which creates a Carson River water basin district.

Jake Miller as a Velocipedist. Yesterday Jake astonished the natives with his practice on a velocipede. He jerked along pretty well for a beginner; and when he slopped over the ditch opposite our office it was a pretty close shave that he didn’t break his neck. Gen. Tyrrell tried the thing in a hard wear way.

Not all of Carson’s population, but the greater part of it, was present in Reno yesterday to attend the aerial demonstrations given by Uncle Sam’s burden on the occasion of the opening of the Victory bond campaign. The railroad company ran a special train to the city.

State, city and county offices will close today between 12 and 3 p.m. to permit employees to attend Good Friday services, but federal offices will remain open.

Harold Jacobsen will be the toastmaster at the Kit Carson Toastmasters Club Tuesday at the Silver Spur. Speakers for the meeting will be John Bullis, P.K. Gardner and Wendell Taylor. Tom Lewis will be general evaluator.
