CCSO warns of a scam involving agency

A scam is going around that involves the Churchill County Sheriff Office’s non-emergency number, 775-423-3116.

These scammers are calling residents pretending to be a deputy with CCSO. The Caller ID will even show up as “Churchill County Sheriff’s Office.”

If you receive a call from someone stating they are a deputy with CCSO, please verify with the CCSO. The sheriff’s office also strongly discourages residents giving out any personal information such as date of birth, Social Security number or home address, unless residents know for certain they are speaking with a real deputy.

If residents receive a phone call like this and are unsure if it’s the scam or a real deputy, CCSO encourages them to call CCSO on the non-emergency line, which is, in fact, still 775-423-3116, and CCSO will be more than happy to assist.
