Fallon swimmers qualify for regional, aim to lower times

The Greenwave boys and girls swimming team has qualified in all events necessary for the regional meet next month in Carson City.

But to get to state, Fallon needs to shave some times to maximize the number of participants swimming in the biggest meet of the season, which will also be in Carson.

Listed below is where the Greenwave stands with two more meets left, including Friday’s contest in Carson before finishing the regular season in Truckee on May 4. State qualifying times listed reflect the fourth-place swimmer in each event. The top four advance to state.

Girls

State-qualifying times: 26.96 (50-yard freestyle), 59.03 (100 free), 2:12.70 (200 free), 6:05.36 (500 free), 1:06.06 (100 backstroke), 47.29 (50 breaststroke), 1:17.81 (100 breast), 1:08.29 (100 fly) and 2:31.15 (200 Individual medley)

Emily Giovanetti leads the team in most events, including the 50-yard free, 100 free, 100 breast, 100 fly and 200 individual medley. Giovanetti leads the team with a 28.96 in the 50 free followed by Kamiah Henning at 29.71. Giovanetti posted a 1:05.39 in the 100 free followed by Hannah Rochna at 1:07.3, Henning at 1:07.83, Ashby Trotter at 1:10.06 and Larissa Sanches at 1:10.66.

In the 200 free, Rochna leads the team at 2:28.92, followed by Sanches at 2:44.49 and Cara White at 2:59.95. Sanches leads the team in the 500 free at 6:58.06, followed by Giovanetti at 6:58.43 and Karly Frederick at 8:34.59. In the 100 back, Rochna posted a 1:14.25 followed by Giovanetti at 1:20.35, Kamiah Henning at 1:23.53 and Sanches at 1:24.81.

In the 50 breast, Natasha Emke is at 1:08.44 while Giovanetti posted a 1:23.42 in the 100 breast, followed by Adriana Hannen at 1:28.98 and Trotter at 1:31.87. In the 100 fly, Giovanetti recorded a 1:14.67, followed by Henning at 1:25.61 and Sanches at 1:28.52. Giovanetti has a 2:48.21 in the 200 IM and Sanches is at 2:56.31.

The 400 free relay sits in fourth at 5:39.95 while the 200 free and 200 medley relays are in fifth at 2:06.33 and 2:17.96, respectively. Each needs to shave between five and seconds from their time to be in the top four.

Boys

State qualifying times: 24.57 (50 free), 53.65 (100 free), 5:39.14 (500 free), 37.96 (50 back), 1:03.81 (100 back), 43.53 (50 breast), 1:05.82 (100 breast), 59.80 (100 fly) and 2:21.67 (200 IM)

Ruben Alanis leads Fallon in the 50 free at 25.71 followed by Dominc Schulenberg at 26.75. Alanis also leads in the 100 free at 56.93 followed by Schulenberg at 1:00.08. Kaden Grimes posted a 7:03.62 in the 500 free and Hayden Hawk has a 43.03 in the 50 back. In the 100 back, Alanis leads the team at 1:10.85 followed by Schulenberg at 1:12.06.

Hawk leads Fallon in the 50 breast at 44.81 while Alanis posted a 1:10.83 in the 100 breast, followed by Brian Seline at 1:20.00. Alanis also has a 1:10.20 in the 100 fly and a 2:30.62 in the 200 IM. Grimes posted a 2:59.36 in the 200 IM.

The 200 free and 200 medley relay teams, although in sixth, are only a couple seconds from being in the top four. The 200 free team is at 1:50.33 and the 200 medley team is at 2:06.77. While the 400 free is one spot away from state, it needs to cut 23 seconds from its time (4:35.85).
