Robert Riviera, Jr., age 66, of Carson City, NV, succumbed to lung cancer on February 2, 2019 with his loving wife and son by his side.


Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Riviera, Sr. and his mother, Elizabeth, as well as his sister, Martha and his brothers, Steven and Joaquin Riviera.


Robert is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Deborah and his two sons, Joseph and Anthony, and daughter/niece, Martha (Armando) Gonzales; siblings Connie, Luisa and Ricardo. Robert was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews and a friend to everyone he met.


He was born in San Francisco, CA on April 3, 1952. He spent his childhood living in Half Moon Bay and San Jose, CA. Robert served 8 years active duty in the Army until being honorably discharged due to health issues as a 100% service-connected veteran in 1983.


Robert’s travels with the Army took him to Germany, Key West, FL, Korea, and Monterey, CA (Fort Ord). After serving in the Army he resided in Glendale, Arizona for 12 years and then settled in Carson City, NV.


Robert will be remembered as a bright, shining light to all of his family. He always had a smile on his face and loved to “pull the wool over your eyes.” He was an avid NASCAR fan; he enjoyed building models and racing slot cars. He was an active member of the BVA and the DAV.


Visitation will be at Autumn Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, February 12 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. The Rosary will be held at 6pm


Funeral services for Robert will be held on Wednesday, February 13 at 9:00 AM in the Chapel at St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Robert will be laid to rest at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley at 11:30 AM.


The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all of the doctors and nurses who treated Robert at the Reno VA Hospital and Specialty Clinic.


In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to BVA (Blinded Veterans Association) or the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
