Silver Stage’s Broughton to play in All-American Bowl

Silver Stage High School senior wide receiver Travis Broughton has been selected to represent Nevada at the upcoming Blue-Grey All-American Bowl being held at NRG Stadium in Houston on Jan. 14.

The 6-foot 1-inch senior will be a wide receiver on the Team 49 squad (a squad consisting of players from 49 states assembled to take on the Texas Lone Star team), wearing No. 19. Broughton was nominated for the All-American Bowl by former NFL wide receiver Billy McMullen.

Broughton played varsity football for Silver Stage for all four seasons, playing several positions. He was a captain and earned all-conference honors as a wide receiver as well as defensive end.

Broughton was among more than 6,750 high school athletes who competed at regional and super combines across the country for a spot in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl.

He competed at the regional combine in Oakley, Calif., where he advanced to the super combine in Denver. During these combines all athletes were tested in the 40-yard dash, bench press, standing broad jump, 20-yard shuttle run, and a variety of other drills. Broughton advanced to the All-American Bowl from the super combine in Denver.

The upcoming three-day event for the All-American Bowl will consist of several activities including two days of practice with the Team 49 squad and a national media dinner where Broughton will meet with personnel from 24/7 Sports, USA Today, Rivals, ESPN and the Impact Football Network.

The game will kick off at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 14 and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
