SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Teacher sustainable for CHS

Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels is a weekly feature in the Appeal’s Opinion pages in which the Appeal gives Silver Dollars to those who deserve recognition and occasionally a Wooden Nickel to those who deserve criticism.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Kristina Britt, speech language pathologist at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, who’s a winner of GreenNevada’s (Growing Resources for Environmental Education in Nevada) 2019 Golden Pinecone Sustainability Award. She was nominated and recognized in the educator category for her visionary leadership in guiding the school and district to implement sustainable practices. The Greenhouse Project, a hands-on learning center at Carson High School, also was recognized as a winner in the nonprofit category.

SILVER DOLLAR: To several local athletes who have signed to compete in athletics at the college level. Two Carson High athletes signed to compete at Division I schools as Jill Beglin signed to play golf at St. John’s and Abby Pradere signed to run track at the University of San Francisco. For Douglas High, Hailey Hughes signed to play volleyball at Division I Louisiana Monroe, Haley Doughty signed to play softball at Division II Metro State in Denver, Jordan Smith signed to play soccer at Division II Cal State East Bay and Elijah Hinojosa signed to play baseball at Clark Community College in Washington.

SILVER DOLLAR: To University of Nevada men’s basketball coach Eric Musselman for picking up his 100th win as the Wolf Pack’s coach.
