RENO — More than 200 firefighters have managed to contain about half of a Northern Nevada wildfire that has burned nearly 2 square miles of mostly rangeland and destroyed a home north of Reno.
The Sierra Front dispatch center said Monday the Jasper Fire is 45 percent contained and should be fully contained by Tuesday evening.
It says one primary residence and two out buildings have been destroyed but there have been no reports of injuries.
At one time, as many as 100 homes were threatened near Spanish Springs.
Officials say the blaze is thought to have been started Saturday afternoon by two men who were target shooting.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has charged 23-year-old Alex Arias and 22-year-old Jorge Arias with destruction of property by fire with gross negligence. It’s not clear if they have lawyers.
