The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development is encouraging rural organizations to get involved to support technical assistance and training to develop essential community facilities. An estimated $1.5 million is available nationwide, with grant awards of $50,000 to $150,000 through the Community Facility Technical Assistance and Training Grant.

In 2018, Nevada funded two nonprofits through the CFTAT program. The Churchill Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs received a $50,000 CFTAT grant to develop architectural plans for a substance abuse treatment center expansion in Fallon; the Nye Communities Coalition received a $150,000 CFTAT grant to help the town of Tonopah identify medical treatment options and to assist the Duckwater Tribe to evaluate its irrigation facilities.

USDA Rural Development will make grants to public bodies and private nonprofit corporations (such as states, counties, cities, townships and incorporated towns and villages, boroughs, authorities, districts and Indian tribes on federal and state reservations) to provide associations technical assistance and/or training with respect to essential community facilities programs. The technical assistance and/or training will assist communities, Indian tribes and nonprofit corporations to identify and plan for community facility needs that exist in their area. Once those needs have been identified, the grantee can assist in identifying public and private resources to finance those identified community facility needs.

Electronic applications must be sent to www.grants.gov by 9 p.m. on June 10. Paper applications must postmarked by 2 p.m. on June 17 and addressed to: USDA Rural Development, Cheryl Couch, 1390 S. Curry St., Carson City, Nev. 89703.

Application guidance is available from USDA Rural Development Nevada if requested prior to June 5. Contact Cheryl Couch at cheryl.couch@nv.usda.gov or by phone at 775-443-4760.
