Fallon swimming qualifies 3 individuals, 1 relay for state

The Greenwave boys and girls swimming team finished in the top six of last weekend’s Northern 3A regional meet in Reno, sending a handful to this week’s state meet in Carson.

Fallon finished fourth in the girls division with 193 points and sixth in the boys with 163 as Truckee won both divisions with 453 and 512 points, respectively. The 400-yard freestyle relay team, Emily Giovanetti and Larissa Sanches qualified for state for the girls while Ruben Alanis will represent the boys.

Girls

Giovanetti qualified in the 100 free by finishing in 1:02.33 for fourth and Sanches qualified in the 500 free with a fourth-place finish of 6:51.96. The 400 free relay team of Sanches, Giovanetti, Hannah Rochna and Jamiah Henning took fourth at 4:33.98.

The 200 medley relay team of Rochna, Ashby Trotter, Henning and Giovanetti missed qualifying by about 3 seconds after finishing fifth in 2:14.65. The 200 free relay team of Whitney Bernard, Karley Frederick, Adriana Hannen and Trotter finished fifth at 2:11.11.

Rochna needed to shave about 9.5 seconds to finish fourth in the 200 free, but settled with a 2:30.34 for fifth, and was sixth in the 100 backstroke at 1:13.27. Giovanetti finished fifth in the 100 bresstroke at 1:21.89, less than 2 seconds from qualifying, while Sanches was sixth in the 200 individual medley, clocking in at 3:00.39.

Boys

Alanis finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:11.57 and finished fifth in the 100 free, coming 2 seconds less than qualifying after a 56.14 race.

The 200 medley relay team of Kaden Grimes, Brian Seline, Justin Bivens and Alanis finished fifth in 2:09.35. The 200 free relay team of Nicholas Dalton, Grimes, Bivens and Alanis finished seventh in 1:53.28. The 400 free relay team of Dalton, Hayden Hawk, Spencer Knight and Seline finished seventh in 4:52.31.
