Carson City Republican Women’s Club honors local veterans

Carson City Republican Women’s Club honored 25 veterans at its lunch Tuesday at the Casino Fandango Ballroom. This is the fourth year it has recognized local veterans in the Carson City area and thanked them for their service. In attendance among the veterans, it recognized the oldest U.S. Navy retired veteran, Glenn Tierney, 95, and the youngest Marine veteran, Desmond Muir, 46. A video of military medley songs was displayed along with the military insignia denoting all branches of service.

Retired naval Cmdr. Tierney gave comments on his exemplary career and proud to tell the audience of a pending statue being commissioned in his honor at China Lake. A big thank you to John and Jessie Vettel for assistance in this part of the program.

Guest speaker Melissa Davis, marketing and fundraising director for the Veterans Guest House in Reno, gave an informational talk with regards to how the Guest House accommodates veterans in need of overnight accommodations when in the Reno area for medical appointments and treatment. Sheri LeTourneau, first vice president, programs, has provided the club with very meaningful and informational speakers; thank you, Sheri.

The next meeting for CCRW Club is 6 p.m. Dec. 17 at Casino Fandango. This will be the installation of 2020 officers.
