October 31, 1946 ~ September 19, 2019 Anthony (Tony) Charles Martin, 72, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2019 after a brief illness.
Tony was born October 31, 1946 to Dorothea Jean (nee Cress) and Anthony Joseph Domonkos in Cleveland, Ohio. Tony came home to Fallon, Nevada with his mother at age 2. His mother later married William (Bill) John
Martin and Bill adopted Tony.

Tony was raised in Fallon, graduating from Churchill County High School in 1964. Tony graduated with an Associate in Arts Degree from Sacramento City College in 1968 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business
Administration from California State University in 1972. Tony served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam conflict. Tony worked for AAA Insurance in Sacramento for 12 years before coming home to Fallon
where he purchased the Sears Catalog Store on North Maine Street. After Sears closed the store in 1993, Tony earned his teaching certification. He taught 4th grade at E.C. Best Elementary, later transferring to the Junior High School to teach math and then to Lahontan Elementary where he taught 5th and 6th grades before moving to the computer lab to teach computers. Tony retired from the Churchill County School District in 2014.

Tony met the love of his life, Cheryl, in 1991. They were the best of friends and companions right up until the day God took him home. Tony spent his childhood summers at the Martin Ranch in Eureka County where he could indulge in one of his greatest passions, riding and roping. After his marriage to Cheryl, he would go out to the ranch almost every spring for the annual roundup and branding. They would also go to the ranch to hunt deer and sage hen and spent many hours riding around the hills with his uncle, Robert Martin, checking water holes, fixing fences and listening to Robert’s many stories. Tony loved to team rope and would meet up with different friends and fellow ropers around Churchill County to practice team roping.

Papa Tony was a loving grandpa who went to great lengths to get kids on a horse. He once loaded up the only horse trailer he had at the time, a three-horse slant, to haul a pony to Chico, California so his grandson, Drake, could ride a horse while visiting from Kwajalein Island. He loved all of his grandkids and would read stories to them or even doze off holding one in his arms. He kept a car seat in his pick-up and didn’t mind loading up a grandkid to go with him to wherever he might be headed. After retirement, Tony began rescuing dogs. He spent his days taking care of the many dogs he rescued and found peace in their unconditional love. Tony had several horses throughout the years and still kept two roping horses with good intentions of riding and roping again. Tony had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. His smile lit up his face and brightened the day of anyone he shared it with. His presence in our lives will be greatly missed.

Tony was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Joseph Domonkos and his adoptive father, William John Martin. He is survived by his mother, Dorothea Ratzlaff; his best friend and companion, Cheryl Martin; son, Brad Martin (Laura), children Ayden, Ashley (Justin), Jeremy and Kyle; daughter Brynn Lovato, children Drake and Myles; daughter Kari Gonzales, child
Amber; Cheryl’s children, Ryan McPherson (Holly) children Wyatt (Hunter) and Maggie; Jamie Cooley (Jeff), children Johnny and Sierra; Brady Drayton, children Serenity and Drezden; Kyle Drayton (Katie), children Parker and Emma and 2 great grandchildren, Layla James and Savanna Blu, half-sister Patti (Mike) Anderson, three nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to accommodate out-of-town family members. In lieu of flowers, please donate to CAPS.
