Carson City Health and Human Services received its first batch of COVID-19 vaccine and will soon start vaccinating first responders and frontline public health workers.

The department took delivery of 1,500 doses of the Moderna vaccine on Monday, said Jessica Rapp, CCHHS public information officer.

“We are working to schedule closed clinics with our tier one partners,” said Rapp.

Tier 1 also includes outpatient and home health care providers, lab workers, psychiatric and substance abuse hospital residents and workers, and Nevada Department of Corrections staff.

The bulk of the tier 1 — hospital workers and long-term facility patients and staff — is being vaccinated separately.

Carson Tahoe Health received a second vaccine shipment this week, 400 doses of the Moderna vaccine, and continued vaccinating staff on Tuesday, said Diane Rush, director, Marketing & Communications, and public information officer.

The hospital received the Pfizer vaccine last week and has so far vaccinated 459 employees with that vaccine, said Rush.

CVS announced on Monday it was working in 12 states to vaccinate residents and staff at skilled nursing and assisted living facilities.

In Nevada, the national pharmacy is starting to vaccinate 22,000 patients with the Pfizer vaccine at 250 skilled nursing and assisted living facilities in the state.

Both CVS and Walgreens are vaccinating in long-term care facilities under an agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Rush said hospital utilization was status quo.

“We continue to run at near capacity, but things do seem to be leveling off,” she said.

As of Monday, there 2,498 active COVID-19 cases in Carson City, There have so far been a total of 4,560 cases and 2,018 recoveries and 44 deaths.
