Rep. Steven Horsford, R-Nev., said Friday the House Appropriations Act includes an additional $9.5 million for the restoration of Lake Tahoe.
He said if the Senate agrees, that will allocate a total of $25.58 million for fire suppression, invasive species control, improving forest health and managing the Tahoe watershed.
“Lake Tahoe is a natural treasure and I’m honored to protect it for future generations,” he said in urging inclusion of the additional funding. “This week’s historic funding increase will keep Tahoe blue, safeguard local communities from wildfires and ensure a steady flow of recreation revenue as our economy rebounds from the pandemic.”
Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Director Joanne Marchetta applauded the bipartisan, bi-state support for the increase. She was joined by Steve Teshara, CEO of the Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, and Darvie Goodman of the League to Save Lake Tahoe — Keep Tahoe Blue.
