UPDATED STORY:
The mandate that state workers show proof of vaccination or take a weekly COVID is now in effect.
Gov. Steve Sisolak announced in mid-July that existing mask requirements for unvaccinated state workers would be expanded to require weekly tests for all unvaccinated state employees and contractors. No details were available on how many state workers have gotten the vaccinations so far.
Vaccinated workers are instructed to show a vaccine card to their agency human resources person.
Those offices that reach 70 percent vaccination rates will not have to take the weekly tests but masks will still be required for the unvaccinated.
Workers can sign up for four hours paid administrative leave to get vaccinated or vaccinate a minor child. Those choosing a weekly test will not be paid administrative leave.
The state contractor does do the actual tests for free to the workers. State workers are being instructed to work out a convenient schedule with their supervisor.
The state has not yet said how many testing sites or vaccination sites will be available to state workers or where they will be.
Those unvaccinated workers who fail to get the weekly tests will face “progressive discipline,” according to the state directive.
Some of the information is available at Go GetTested.com, the website of the state contractor providing tests.
The governor also announced that state workers who get the virus will have to use their own sick leave and won’t be eligible for paid administrative leave unless they can show evidence of vaccination or a doctor’s statement saying they have a medical condition preventing vaccination.
Under Sisolak’s latest directives, all persons in indoor public spaces such as restaurants are required to wear a mask whether they are vaccinated or not.
In addition, all K-12 teachers and education staff statewide are required to wear masks. Students in Clark and Washoe Counties are also required to mask up but school districts in the remaining 15 counties are allowed to make their own rules for students.
Statewide, 59.56 percent of eligible people — those aged 12 and up — have now received at least one shot and 49 percent are fully vaccinated.
In Carson City, approximately 58.83% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Douglas County, approximately 51.8% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Lyon County, approximately 44.81% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Storey County, 675 residents have been completely vaccinated and 754 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 16.5% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
