West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin will join Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto on a three-day, jobs-focused tour of Northern Nevada next week, where the two plan on showcasing how the $1 trillion infrastructure bill will bring jobs to the region.
The Democratic senators plan to discuss wildfires and Nevada's growing renewable energy industry in Reno. They're scheduled to then head east to talk to local officials in Winnemucca about how businesses can benefit from expanding broadband access. They'll conclude their tour with meetings about gold mining and recreational tourism in Elko and the nearby Ruby Mountains. Events will not be open to the public.
Manchin and Cortez Masto work together on the U.S. Senate's Energy and Natural Resources Committee. With Manchin as chair, Cortez Masto has shepherded to passage policies that boost the clean energy economy, invest in battery manufacturing and protect federal lands like the Ruby Mountains from oil and gas development.
Cortez Masto is up for reelection in next year's midterm elections and Democrats have stressed the need to invest in defending her seat.
