Smoke cancels early-season contests across the region
Douglas High as well as most of Northern Nevada has seen a pause in high school athletics, due to air quality.
As the fires continue to burn in the Sierras, the Tigers have moved a few contests to start the season.

Douglas football at Center this Friday was called off on Monday, per head coach Kyle Mays.
Douglas volleyball is scheduled open league play at Reno Thursday, after its Tuesday night contest was moved.
The Tiger girls’ soccer team also did not open its season against Bishop Manogue Tuesday night and had its game rescheduled to Thursday which was also canceled due to air quality.

Tiger football a no-go in week two
Douglas High School football won’t be playing this Friday in Antelope, Calif., (at Center High School) due to the ongoing wildfires.
The news was announced Monday by Tiger head coach Kyle Mays and comes right on the heels of a 24-6 loss on the opening weekend to Lowry.
The Tigers have dealt with some early-season injuries and a week off will give Douglas a chance to recuperate.
“No game this week at all,” said Mays. “Our kids played hard through the first contact of the year without any scrimmages or anything before. … Looking back on the film it made it feel quite a bit better than it did walking off the field Friday night.”
With no contest this upcoming Friday due to smoke, Douglas football will return to action Friday, Sept. 3, with the home opener against McQueen.
