Carson High football still has less than one-half of football under its belt after two weeks of the regular season.
A 23-6 lead over Sparks kicked off the season for Carson after a change in schedule.
Week two provided less stability as air quality and COVID testing protocols scrapped two contests the Senators had set up.
As soon as this past weekend’s contest had been canceled, Carson High head coach Blair Roman said “we are on to Reno.”
Frankly, it’s the only mentality most teams in Nevada have had to adopt.
“Everything is smoke dependent,” said Roman. “The fires are concerning, but right now we are moving forward.”
However, Reno High football has been fortunate enough to get two contests under its belt to this point.
The Huskies opened the year with a 42-18 win at Fallon before falling to Spanish Springs on Friday, 21-10.
Both contests are without Reno statistics online.
It’s certainly a mismatch that has caught Roman’s eye as Carson may still be working out some hiccups without a lot of real, in-game repetitions.

Reno has over 30 seniors on its roster this fall.
This past spring, Carson and Reno were able to meet up during the finale “bowl” week with the Huskies coming out on top, 48-13.
Carson fell behind big early against Reno, but was able to put together a rushing attack over the course of the second half.
Roman thinks the Senators match up with a number of returning players in their own right.
“I feel like that’s a nice thing to have,” said Roman. “We are kind of in the same boat. We have a lot of kids back. We expect a real competitive opponent.”
One of those returning seniors for Reno is quarterback Dominico Granieri (No. 15).
Roman says the Senators’ will need to contain both Granieri and junior Hayden Parga (No. 12) behind center.
“The two kids that have stood out are the two quarterbacks,” said Roman. “I think both of them bring a lot of good athleticism to the table.”
Roman expects the Huskies to throw plenty of zone-read concepts at Carson given the athletic nature of the two signal-callers.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Carson High School.
