Quad County area passes 400 COVID-19 deaths

Carson City Health and Human Services on Thursday reported 16 deaths due to COVID-19 in the Quad County region between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15.
Twelve deaths were in Lyon County, with three in Carson City and one in Douglas County.
For the week, CCHHS also reported 215 new cases, and 247 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the region. This brings the total number of cases to 22,059, with 17,078 recoveries and 409 deaths; 4,572 cases remain active.

Carson City had 3 deaths, 81 new cases, and 66 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Carson City is 6 new cases per day with a 4.3% test positivity rate.
Douglas County had 1 death, 48 new cases, and 84 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Douglas County is 4 new cases per day with a 7.2% test positivity rate.
Lyon County had 12 deaths, 85 new cases, and 96 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Lyon County is 7 new cases per day with a 10.5% test positivity rate.
Storey County had 1 new case and 1 additional recovery of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Storey County is 0 new cases per day with a 13.0% test positivity rate.
 
COVID-19 Vaccination Update
 
As of December 15, 2021, approximately 220,149 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers. CCHHS has administered 74,540 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Approximately 88,329 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 98,326 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna. This number also includes those who completed the series). Data is not CCHHS’ and is taken from the Nevada Health Response Dashboard which can be found at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/.
In Carson City, 33,869 residents have been completely vaccinated and 37,633 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 62.3% of the population 5 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Douglas County, 25,730 residents have been completely vaccinated and 28,617 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 54.2% of the population 5 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Lyon County, 27,905 residents have been completely vaccinated and 31,160 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 50.1% of the population 5 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Storey County, 825 residents have been completely vaccinated and 916 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 20.2% of the population 5 years and older have completed vaccination.
 
Quad-County Breakthrough Cases 
Vaccine breakthrough cases are individuals who test positive for COVID-19 14 or more days after they have completed all recommended doses of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine. A complete vaccination is two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. Since February 1, 2021, breakthrough cases make up 15% of all Quad-County cases ages 5 years and older.
 
Upcoming CCHHS Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
 
All vaccines are available on a walk-in basis at every event for first, second, and third doses for those who are immunocompromised. Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen booster doses are available for those who are eligible. Pfizer boosters are now available for those ages 16 and 17 years! Pediatric Pfizer available for those ages 5 to 11 years.
