The Oasis Academy boys and girls basketball teams swept Excel Christian Academy on Wednesday before seeing mixed results in the Round Mountain tournament over the weekend.
The Bighorns played Coral Academy in the Battle for the Ore Cart on Tuesday and do not compete until next Wednesday when they host Mammoth.
The Bighorns boys team defeated Excel Christian, 40-30, on the road before knocking off Tonopah, 35-23, and Round Mountain, 50-39, on Friday. Oasis Academy lost to Beatty, 50-31, on Saturday.
In Wednesday’s win, Trevor Halloran posted a game-high 28 points, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, and Jacob Pike added six points. Gabriel Romero led the team with seven rebounds and six steals, and Halloran had five rebounds to go with four steals. Fenn Mackedon led the team with three assists.
Against Tonopah, Halloran recorded a triple-double as he hit four 3-pointers to finish with 22 points to go with 12 rebounds and 10 steals. Mackedon added eight points, and Jacob Pike pulled down 11 rebounds.
Halloran followed up his triple-double with a double-double against Round Mountain. The senior sharpshooter led the team with 27 points and added 10 rebounds. Mackedon scored 11 points and Casamaro White had six. Pike led the team in rebounds with 11.
In the only loss of the week, Halloran led the team again in scoring with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and pulled down 11 rebounds for his second double-double. Pike scored six points, Mackedon had five and Westin Booker added four. Booker led the team in rebounds with 12 and Pike had nine.
Seven Lady Bighorns scored in their 44-13 win over Excel Christian on Wednesday with Jaylee McEwen leading the team with 19 points. Tylie Norcutt scored eight points and Taylynn Maynez added seven.
McEwen led the team in scoring in a 47-24 loss to Tonopah on Friday. The senior shooter posted 18 points and Norcutt added four.
In a 46-6 loss to Round Mountain on Friday, Oasis Academy was held scoreless in the second half. McEwen led the team with five points, including a 3-pointer.
Saturday saw better results although a loss for Oasis Academy. In the 44-20 loss to Beatty, McEwen led the team with eight points, and Maynez and Gabriel Hockenberry-Grimes each added four.
