The fat woman and the six-legged ram are on exhibition at a place under the Adams House. The siren voice of a barrel organ seduces the passer by to invest the requisite amount admission money. We think these persons were here in a side show last summer.

Hon. Samuel Platt and District Attorney Roberts, during the past week have thrown aside black stone and taken up the pick and shovel. With these implements they have trodded the hills in the hope of uncovering a ledge of gold or some other precious metal.

Developments due to the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii are bringing war activities to Carson City. Two pilot training organizations of California are expanding to get in full action here this week, training fliers o and from the Carson airport. Rumors so far lacking confirmation have the Stewart Indian School being evacuating for the housing of United State soldiers.

Powerful radio transmitters broadcast the Christmas peace message of Pope John XXIII to the world today in 30 languages, including Russian. The Vatican Radio, in relays with other transmitters of the free world, broadcast almost continuous translations and reports of the traditional Yuletide address.

Carson Valley motorists have something more to add to their holiday cheer as area gas stations have dropped gas prices to their lowest level in at least three years, to under $1 per gallon.

Yesterday afternoon Messrs. R.E. Kelly and Geo. B. Hill started out to solicit contributions of money to a fund for erecting and equipping a Christmas tree at the Orphans Home. In a wonderfully short space of time they collected not less than $200. The orphans will be treated to as good a Christmas as any body’s little folks.

Merry Christmas. Extensive preparations are being made at the Methodist Church for a good time Christmas Eve. Two trees, connected by an evergreen arch, are already in place and will be decorated today. A concert of forty minutes duration will open the festivities and then will come Santa Claus and the distribution of presents.

Elaborate preparations have been made for the annual community Christmas exercises which will be held this evening in the civic auditorium under the direction of Capitol Post No. 4 of the American Legion. This year they are even more sincere and overflowing with the hope that the coming year may be as merry and pleasant for the person addressed.

Christmas throughout most of the world comes only once a year, but in the Holy Land, where the King of Peace was born, it is celebrated three times. On December 25, the Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. On Jan. 7, the Orthodox Church echoes “Glory to God in the Highest.” The third is Jan. 19 by the Armenians. It is Christmas and Epiphany combined for them.

Wild horses gathered from Nevada’s range could wind up at Northern Nevada Correctional Center’s prison dairy as soon as January. Horses are held at Palomino Valley and when they are exceeding capacity, the horses will be held at the prison until they can be adopted or moved.
