Carson City Symphony Association released a two-part video of “A Talk and Workshop on the Cello” with Priscilla Hawkins. The video can be viewed on the Symphony’s YouTube channel, or by a link from the webpage CCSymphony.com. In the video, Hawkins discusses "The History and Development of the Cello," and then leads a workshop on "The Mechanics of Producing Your Best Cello Tone." The presentation includes a brief video of cellist Emanuel Feuermann playing “Spinning Song” by David Popper in the 1930s. Hawkins has performed as cello soloist and chamber musician; taught strings and presented cello workshops in Michigan and California; been guest Master Teacher in the Azores Islands; and recorded two CDs. She currently coaches student cellists in Carson City School District orchestras and teaches privately. The talk and workshop were held on Sept. 21, at the Carson High School orchestra room. Attendance was limited by COVID-19 guidelines and the video was produced to reach a larger audience. The event and video were a partnership of the Carson City Symphony Association and the Carson City School District, funded in part by a grant from Nevada Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
