Ten members of the Nevada Assembly and one senator, all Democrats, on Monday introduced legislation to require that interrogations of juvenile suspects younger than 15 be electronically recorded and the child be represented by a lawyer under most circumstances.
The requirement would apply to all peace officers and probation officers.
The only exceptions to the requirement is in situations when there is a threat to the safety of the child or others.
Instead of allowing the parent or child to ask for a lawyer, the bill requires a lawyer be provided.
The bill was referred to the Judiciary Committee for review.
