Tom Riggins: Getting our country back

In any industry there are a rare few who make lasting contributions. In broadcast radio, one would be Paul Harvey with his memorable voice and iconic greeting and signoff.

The other is Rush Limbaugh, who pioneered conservative talk radio. Limbaugh passed away last Wednesday after a 32-year career in conservative talk radio. He will be remembered for his concise analysis of events as well as his optimism when things looked bad for our country. He articulated a strong patriotism and was able to explain and offer great insight into the liberal mantra and mind. He was extremely generous, donating and generating millions of dollars for military and law enforcement families among others. These factors among others generated 43 million listeners to his daily broadcasts. That is more than the top four television news programs combined. He is irreplaceable and will be missed by many.

The liberal news media and politician reaction to his death is revealing. The glee and vitriol spread by those outlets is nothing short of appalling. Liberals are showing themselves as the classless, petty, narrow-minded, vindictive, probably unethical, and possibly amoral, people they are. Imagine the outcry from them if typical American citizens had done the same thing when one of their idols, say Ruth Bader Ginsburg, passed on. It didn’t happen, so we will never know. Most Americans have more class than that. If they don’t have anything positive to say, they remain respectfully silent.

Sun-Tzu said in The Art of War, “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.” And make no mistake, we are at war. It is a war within our country. It is a war of beliefs and ideology. It is a war over the course and destiny of our country. It is one to be fought not with arms and violence, but peacefully with words and laws. But it is a war nonetheless.

President Ronald Reagan said in a 1975 interview with Mike Wallace, “If fascism ever comes to America it will come in the name of liberalism." His view of fascism was that business and industry is privately owned but under strict government control. How prescient he was. It now appears that fascism may be on its way.

Ideological fascism has come in place of freedom, waving the banners of trigger warnings, microaggressions, and safe spaces on college campuses, workplaces, and the general public across the land. Unity means accepting the ideology of those in charge. You must submit. You must agree. You must comply with the “acceptable” bundle of ideas or you will be silenced and ostracized.

I believe that former President Obama is the de facto president, pulling the strings behind the scenes. How else could a sitting president that appears to lack full mental faculties and a vice president who could not muster a single presidential primary vote be in charge? And when Biden is removed from the presidency (and I fully expect that to happen within a year) I am placing a large bet that the vice presidential appointee put forth will be Michelle Obama.

There is heartening news of a great awakening. People across the political spectrum are saying “enough.” They believe in the conservatism so clearly articulated by Limbaugh and manifested by the accomplishments of the Trump administration. Many are becoming more involved in their local GOP organizations. They are taking a page from the Democrat Party by working toward securing good candidates for local and state offices who want our government to return to its function of being for the people. There are millions of others across the country who are just waiting for someone or some group to offer some direction. There are like-minded groups being created across the nation.

Locally, the Churchill County Republican Central Committee unanimously approved a resolution to form an ad hoc committee called the MAGA Movement Committee. Its intent is not to endorse or support Trump, but to advocate for and educate about the Trump administration accomplishments. The goal is, among other items, to open lines of communication with other counties and states working toward their goals. Elko County has started a similar action. In the few days since these actions occurred, it has become evident that other states are beginning similar actions. No longer are many willing to without reservation accept or support their RINO legislators. The mood is, “We want legislators to represent us, not themselves.” Join us. Let’s make Rush Limbaugh proud.
