State awards $3.9 million for Carson City, rural community projects

The state on Thursday announced $3.9 million in Community Development Block Grants.
Of the 14 projects, six are to organizations based in Carson City.
The largest is $254,544 for the FISH Revitalization project that will benefit 75 residents. That is followed by $131,637 for the Colorado Street ADA project benefitting 1,280 residents and $94,019 for pedestrian ramps at Long Ranch. The Ron Wood Youth Absentee Reduction project will receive $30,000 and $10,000 goes to RSVP for the rural Counties Veterans Project. Finally, Carson City’s Grants Management unit will get $50,146.
The largest projects on the list are $885,463 to Fallon for street and Sidewalk ADA improvements and $765,620 to McGill to pay for lining the sewer pond for that White Pine community.
Esmeralda County will receive $350,000 for its emergency generator project and Nye County $350,000 for the Union Plaza and Convention Center.
Pahrump Fairgrounds will receive $147,225 for sewer and wastewater system work in Nye County.
Caliente was awarded $513,000 for Caliente Depot restoration and Ely’s Murry Street sewer and water improvements project, $612,787.
To receive the money, those communities invested $1.9 million in matching funds.
The CDBG program is overseen by the federal Housing and Urban Development Department and the grants are administered by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
