RENO — Record heat continues across all of Nevada — from Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe and Elko — along with record rainfall in Southern Nevada where more thunderstorms are in the forecast.
A record-high of 92 degrees Fahrenheit was recorded Sunday at South Lake Tahoe, California, where temperatures were about a dozen degrees above average all last week. Six records have fallen and three others have been tied there since mid-June. The old mark of 91 F Sunday was set in 2002.
Tonopah's record-high 105 F Sunday broke the previous record 101 F set in 1959. Eureka and Elko tied records of 102 F and 103 F, respectively. Fallon reached 109 F and Reno 104 F, both shy of the local records.
The high of 114 F at Mercury Desert Rock north of Las Vegas broke the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded there, while the mercury topped out at 116 F (46.6 C) at North Las Vegas Airport and 114 F at McCarran International.
A record 0.10 inch of rain in Las Vegas on Sunday doubled the old mark set in 1989.
