Spooner Lake park will close temporarily because of construction of a new visitor center and amphitheater. Jennifer Ramella of the state parks division said the main entrance, parking areas and front-country will be closed to public access beginning Monday, July 19. She said they expect to reopen in early September. There is no trailhead access parking or facilities available at Spooner Lake but officials say the backcountry and trails will remain open to the public. She said the new visitors center and amphitheater will provide a venue for Spooner’s natural and cultural history programs and ranger-led hikes and tours. It will serve as a major portal to the primitive wilderness in the Tahoe Basin.
