Lined up on rows of tables are hundreds of books appealing to all literary tastes.
A portion of the Churchill County Museum has transformed itself into a microcosm of a bookstore that features books from most genres. Through Aug. 15, the museum will be selling books from the estate of former museum Director Dan Ingram, who died in December.
Current Museum Director Teri Hedgpeth, along with her staff, began placing books on tables last week. Members of the museum’s association perused the books at their annual meeting and ice cream social Tuesday.
Hedgpeth said Ingram’s estate is splitting the profits from the book sale with the museum’s foundation. Proceeds will support exhibits and programs at the museum. Although visitors to the museum will see hundreds of books in the multipurpose room, Hedgpeth said Ingram collected thousands of books.
“Very few are local, but some deal with Native Americans,” Hedgpeth said.
Steve Ranson/LVN Hundreds of books have already been placed on tables for a big Churchill County Museum book sale.
Included in the collection are fiction and nonfiction books written on housekeeping, cooking, furniture, art, glass collecting, architecture, food, literature and history.
“Many of these are really good books,” Hedgpeth said. “Some of these fantastic history books I used on my master’s (degree) course.”
Included in Ingram’s collection are Nancy Drew books, but Hedgpeth said she didn’t find any books on the Hardy Boys — teenage sleuths Frank and Joe — who solve crimes.
Hedgpeth said multiple copies of the same book are included in the sale.
The Churchill County Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
