A little four-year-old remarked to her mamma, on going to bed, “I am not afraid of the dark.” “No, of course you are not,” replied her mamma, “for it can’t hurt you.” “But mamma, I was a little afraid once when I went into the pantry in the dark to get a cooky.” “What were you afraid of?” asked her mamma. “I was afraid I couldn’t find the cookys.”

Tom Stack of Gold Hill has returned from Tonapah (sic). There are about 600 people at the camp and the day he left 50 arrived. He says it is no place for a man to go for a day’s work, as all the ground is taken up and everyone is working his own lease. The principal workings are on a knoll similar to the Homestead in Gold Hill. Butler, who discovered the camp, is a big hearted fellow, and at present is paying the board of about 60 men who are broke. — Enterprise.

A high grade drama is to be offered at the Grand theater for the next two evenings. The title of the new Faversham picture is “The Sin That Was His,” and it has the additional benefits of the authorship of Frank L. Packard and the forceful direction of Hobart Henley.

It is planned to establish headquarters in each county seat and in the larger inhabited areas in the state to accommodate the applicants for driver’s licenses under the new Nevada law which goes into effect on July 1, and requires that all drivers of motor vehicles must secure licenses.

A search Sunday of the cell house at the Nevada State Prison’s maximum security facility has revealed more homemade weapons, the Warden said today. He said prison personnel discovered “an assortment of minor weapons such as broom handles with pieces of wire inserted in the ends,” during the search which has been going on since last Friday’s riot.

Carson City voters may get a say in the future of Fuji Park and the Carson City Fairgrounds. Concerned Citizens to Save Fuji Park and the Fairgrounds filed a legal petition which could force the Carson City Supervisors to enact an ordinance protecting the park and fairgrounds from commercial development.

The Carson Mint was closed yesterday, so far as the receiving of deposits is concerned, for repairs and the annual settlement of accounts. It will remain thus closed until the first day of July next. Meantime the material on hand will be worked and cleaned up.

About 50 active military, veterans and civilians gathered at the Nevada State Veterans Memorial on Thursday to honor the U.S. flag and celebrate the 226th birthday of the U.S. Army.
