As a part of Sheriff Ken Furlong's Initiative of "101 Days of Safe Summer,” this year the Carson City Sheriff's deputies are teaming with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office on Marine IX for added patrol attention to the Carson City waters and shorelines of Lake Tahoe.
Sheriff's Deputies Martha Tschetter and Johnathan Stone have already received training and assignments and are actively patrolling the areas.
This addition for the summer will assist deputies that are routinely on foot patrol along Carson’s three-mile shoreline of Lake Tahoe by virtue of a joint agreement between the Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Forest Service.
The Sheriff's "101 Days of Safe Summer" runs officially from June 20 thru Sept. 22, the Summer Season.
However, Furlong realizes that the summer festivities and recreation have already begun and getting in full swing early is necessary.
Throughout the department, specialized units such as traffic enforcement, special drug enforcement, school resources officers, and other units are stepping up their activities to ensure everyone enjoys a safe summer season without injury or fatality.
The quantitative goal of the Initiative this summer is "Zero Fatalities" and a reduction in crime, which often is a result of alcohol and controlled substance impairment and addictions.
“While enjoying the lake this summer, be sure to realize that the highways and waterways are challenging for impaired persons, and no one should get on board a boat or in a motor vehicle with an impaired operator; safety first,” Furlong said.
