Carson City Symphony Association will host “Strings in the Summer 2021,” two free programs for string-instrument players of all ages, in July and August. Each program has two levels. The four-day July program will begin on Tuesday morning, July 6, including an informal concert on July 9. The two-day August “Boot Camp” will be held on Aug. 3 and Aug.5. Fiddle and Fun meets from 9 to 10 a.m. on July 6, 7, and 8, with a concert at 10 a.m. July 9. It is designed primarily for younger students, and for violinists, violists and cellists of any age who have limited experience. Participants must be able to play a one-octave D scale and read notes within the staff. String Ensemble meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon on July 6-8, with a concert on 10 a.m. on July 9. It is for advanced beginner to intermediate players of all ages, including adults. The ensemble will play fun tunes arranged for violin, viola, cello, and bass. Boot Camp, Aug. 3 and Aug. 5, gives string players a head start before school and orchestra seasons begin. New and returning beginning violins (Symphony Youth Strings Allegro level) meet from 9 to 10 a.m. New and returning advanced beginning strings (Symphony Youth Strings Vivace level) and above meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon. All classes are held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Family Church, 1201 N. Saliman Road in Carson City. The July 9 performance is at Carson Mall. Laura Gibson, Associate Concertmaster of Carson City Symphony, is the instructor. Masks are required and students are asked to bring a music stand if possible.
