Emergency regulations relaxing requirements for unemployment claimants expired on Friday, reinstating eligibility requirements to receive benefits.
Those emergency rules enabled the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation to process claims without having to deal with issues including deductible income, next-to-last employer separations and the able and available status requirement.
Normally, unemployment benefits are reduced by the amount of severance, pension and sick or annual leave payouts when the worker left their job. That rule was relaxed during the pandemic.
In addition, the rule requiring DETR to look at the next to last employer if the worker was with their most recent employer for less than 16 weeks was eliminated. That requirement is also reinstated now.
Finally, all unemployment claimants must be able and available to seek and accept full-time work. That requirement was waived during the pandemic but is once again required.
Those rules apply to regular unemployment claimants. There is no change to the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance claims.
A spokesman said claimants who need help with work search such as resume building, job referrals and job fairs or hiring events should go to NevadaJobConnect.com and fill out the form seeking help. Training programs are found at EmployNV.gov.
