The Horrible Club, now a very strong organization in Virginia, are making arrangements for a blow out on the Fourth of July which shall shed becoming luster on the Centennial. In order they may fitting commemorate the cause for which their venerated ancestors went without shoes at Valley Forge.

The astronomer of the Bodie Free Press has discovered a new star about thirty degrees to the left and southward of the moon. It can be seen at midday and the reporter has figured it out that it is no other than the star of Bethlehem, which disappeared for the earth after the birth of Christ and has not since been seen. Bodie seems so far to be the only place vouched a view of the remarkable planet.

Sixty thousand rainbow fry will be released in the Truckee river on its side of the State line early next week. This is a portion of the quantity Nevada will receive in return for permitting the California Fish Commission to operate its fish hatchery at Verdi.

The Nevada driver’s license division representatives will receive applications of Ormsby county residents on July 8 at the division office in the basement of the highway department headquarters.

Frank Craven, who was so severely injured by being run over by the Curry Engine last week, and whose life was despaired of, and whose reported death was widely circulated and telegraphed to the San Francisco papers, is reported in fair way of recovery. Dr. Gridley attends him.

Angling Notes. There is prime fishing now at Hope Valley and parties camping out in that vicinity report some astonishing catches. The fish assays run into the hundreds. At the lake travelers resort excellent sport with the monsters, which run from twelve to thirty pounds.

Miss Epsie Grant has been selected as Goddess of Liberty for the Fourth of July. This is one of the best selections made as the young lady is thoroughly fitted to fill the position, as she is not only handsome, but has the grace that goes to make a Goddess fit for the occasion.

H. J. Strecker has announced that the bowling alley will open in the south part of the Laxalt building at ten o’clock Saturday morning. Four complete alleys have been installed and benches for seating spectators have been placed on the platform in position to give a good view of the alleys.

Amy Stone at Eureka. — On Thursday last as Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Stone were about to leave Eureka at the close of an engagement there, they were serenaded by Eurekans. Mr. Stone responded, songs were sung and champagne and toasts followed. A very pleasant affair.

The Appeal regrets at witnessing the unseeming squabble that has arisen between the newspapers over the new comment. There is scarcely an exchange which comes to hand that does not claim the honor of first discovering and charge its contemporaries with lying.

The Appeal is happy to state that nothing but good feelings prevails over the Queen’s contest. The battle was really fought by the friends and admirers of the two ladies and the beaten faction takes their defeat good humoredly and will stand to make the coronation a complete success.

The post office party in Social Hall of the Presbyterian Church Thursday evening under sponsorship of the Ladies Federated Society was well attended and was a social success. The program opened with the singing of “God Bless America” by all present.

After serving a total of 70 years in education, Superintendent Jim Parry and Associate Superintendent Dorothy Todd bid farewell to the Carson City School District at their final school board meeting Tuesday.
