With passage of the American Rescue Plan Act extending eligibility under the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), most Nevada claimants are now on that program instead of the regular benefits program.
A total of 96,381 people filed claims under PEUC in the week ending March 13. That is on top of the 71,695 who filed the week before.
In the regular program, initial claims for the week were just 10,086, down 462 from the previous week. Continued regular claims were also down — by 8,111 to 71,247.
The Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program saw just 4,086 new claims during the week. That program provides benefits to the self-employed and gig workers who don’t qualify for regular unemployment benefits.
Both PEUC and PUA have been extended through Sept. 4.
