Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., on Friday joined a bipartisan group of senators in sponsoring legislation that would give marijuana businesses access to banking services.
Federal law currently bars banks and other licensed financial institutions from doing business with the pot industry.
Rosen says that forces those businesses to operate almost entirely in cash, greatly increasing their exposure to crimes including theft and robbery.
She said 47 states, four territories and the District of Columbia have legalized some form of recreational or medical marijuana including CBD. She said those states are home to just shy of 98 percent of the population.
The bill is nearly identical to a measure she introduced in the last Congress.
